ANTONIETA MATURANA- CAPDEVILA

BIO

Antonieta was born in Chile where she lived for the first 25 years of her life. She graduated with a masters degree in biochemistry from the University of Chile. She has since lived in Georgia, Texas, Sweden and currently resides in Nashville, TN. She worked as a research associate from 1986 until 2007, when she retired from Vanderbilt University.

Though a lover of arts all her life, she became interested in painting because lab work, while challenging her imagination, provided no visual stimulation. Painting introduced this extra color into her life. She took classes with prestigious Nashville painter Charles Brindley from 2003 until 2009 and with abstract painter Mildred Jarrett in 2010 and 2011.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Painting for me has developed from a hobby to a different way of seeing the world around me. Colors, shapes, and shadows are a never ending source of surprise. Going from realism to a more abstract style has meant focusing less on what I see and more on what I feel. I work in acrylics and I love using palette knives to create textures. I aspire to develop my own style by combining what my head analyzes with what my emotions dictate.
